RIP Gary Speed
I feel so proud and privileged to have seen him play in our kit.
Chester City away in 1989/90 promotion season 19 April 1990. The pitch was ankle deep in mud and the ball was barely rolling on parts of the pitch (good job most of our attacks were ariel in those days!!).
A ball over the top stopped dead in the muddiest part of the Chester goalmouth. I rushed onto it through the quagmire, took a big swing (hence the right foot, which in those days was purely there for the purpose of balancing!! ) and off came the boot and headed for the top left corner - unfortunately for the Chester keeper so did he!!
The ball however had different ideas, and slowly bobbled into the bottom right corner where it nestled nicely for a 1-0 away win. (For the record, the keeper did not get a hand to the boot either).
